Gaming Controllers have Been Continuously Evolving Since the Late 20th Century
Controllers weren't always as comfortable as you think.
The very first controllers were of a crude rectangular design made to serve the basic functions of the first gaming consoles. As the consoles and games became more complex, controllers also had to evolve to keep up with the growing functionality of its counterparts.
.The very first controller was the MAGNAVOX ODYSSEY 100, which was released in 1972. This controller allowed the most basic vertical and horizontal movement for the first video games. It was the start of the development that is still ongoing today.

The beginning of the modern controller began with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1983. It's controls offered four directions, two action buttons, a select and a start button, which offered much more functionality than it's predecessors. It became the base that all the other future controllers built upon.
